The German Fleet League (German: Deutscher Flottenverein) was an interest group in the German Empire, formed on April 30, 1898 on the initiative of Rear Admiral Alfred von Tirpitz, through the Imperial German Naval Office -which he directed between 1897 and 1916-. It was composed of different individuals and associations that supported the expansion of the Imperial German Navy. Specifically, it aimed to develop popular pressure on the German Parliament (Reichstag) to approve the naval laws of 1898 and 1900, and the corresponding expenditures.
By 1912, the Social Democrats had succeeded in winning one-third of all votes cast. As in the rest of Europe, Germany's growing working class became more militant, with union-led strike movements and class tensions emerging. The rise of the Social Democrats provoked fears in middle-class circles of a crisis in society, a weakening of the government and general anarchy. In reaction, groups such as the Pan-German League and the German Fleet League tried to curb the influence of the Social Democrats.

Current project at CONICET and UCC: "Asia-Pacific in Latin America. Conditions, strategies and actions of economic diplomacy and foreign policy".
