She has been a visiting researcher at The University of Edinburgh (2014) and a visiting researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (2017). Recently, she has participated in the R&D (Excellence) project: "The role of metaphor in the definition and social perception of conflictual issues. This article aims to build a map that traces different conceptual and theoretical routes that will allow the reader to orient himself/herself through the website of The Communication Initiative, in the specific field of health communication. The Latin America Communication Initiative has been created to support the process of effective communication on issues concerning the development of the continent. One of its main objectives is to reflect on the implications that communication strategies have on the quality of life of the population, through an exchange of experiences with the five continents.
This paper focuses mainly on the role of theory, research and practice of health communication in the areas of disease prevention and health promotion. The paper also attempts to cover the various approaches and the application of communication strategies to inform and influence decisions at the individual and collective level, to improve health or to generate processes of participation and social mobilization to intervene in the determinants of health.
